MILLION DOLLAR CUPCAKE

I just paid L.E. 17 for a cupcake. I know this is eniGma and we are supposed to be all about anything we can’t afford, but a L.E. 17  cupcake… now that’s a lot. Don’t get me wrong, I would totally pay $2.50 for a Ladurée macaroon but L.E 17 for a bit of cake with some icing? In Egypt? And it wasn’t even that good…

Whenever a food place opens near our office, it usually becomes the highlight of our lives here at eniGma (at least until the next new place opens up). It sort of gives us a reason to come to work, a reason to work hard and get paid; so we can go spend our salaries there. It gives us a very legitimate reason to disappear from the office for hours at a time just to check the new place out because, well, we should be in the know. If you don’t know where the eniGma office is, go to any coffee place or restaurant in Zamalek and ask about us, (in some cases you can just ask by the name of the staff) and you’ll easily find your way. So when this new store opened up we were the first to check it out.

Kudos to the interior designer, the place looks nice and its so comfortable that you never want to leave. We didn’t like paying 45 L.E. for half a turkey sandwich though.  It tasted really good though so that was okay. But when a chocolate cupcake costs L.E. 17 and it tastes like Betty Crocker (no offense to Betty Crcoker but it is something I can do with my eyes closed at home) now that is really, really disappointing. We were too afraid to try a real cake (wondering how much would that cost).

So yeah, I’m not adverse to paying for quality, but when you’re putting your money where your mouth is (so to speak), you expect to be duly rewarded.
